A Uniform Perspective on Data

Databases as well as semi-strutured information sources are wrapped to provide a uniform interface to users. We developed a generic wrapper technology for web datasources that captures the hypertext structure of web documents and extracts data. We model each web source by a specification file which describes the data available at the web site and how that data can be obtained.

This uniform interface enables a user to get information from a variety of datasources without having to understand all the different languages that each one understands. Moreover, applications which use data from a variety of datasources need only understand one language.

As an example, we have developed an SQL interface to a variety of datasources, and an ODBC driver which connects our integration technology with applications that understand ODBC.
